~Flow Tow

  FULL SIZE
I was commissioned to film, edit and produce this web video for the ~Flow project in Newcastle.

~Flow is a specially commissioned floating artwork blending contemporary and traditional methods, combining sculpture, cutting edge technology, hand crafted wooden instruments, architecture, precision engineering and electronic music to create an astonishing audio-visual public artwork.

~Flow was built by the Amble Boat Company and on 28th February 2012 it was towed down the Northumberland coast and up the River Tyne to Newcastle. Myself and cameramen Oliver Smith and Richard Rainbow left my studio in Barnard Castle with an AF101 camera, Panasonic GH2, Canon 5D MkII and a Sony Z5. I boarded flow at 6:30am while the others began filming our progress from land.

The journey took 8 hours, during which I shot 5 hours of footage on my AF101 and GH2. It was one of the most exciting and challenging days filming I have undertaken. The edit, using footage from all four cameras was produced using Final Cut Pro on a Macbook Pro and took three days to complete. We were lucky enough due to the lights and weather conditions that the footage required only minimal colour correction. Music came courtesy of Winter North Atlantic and was nipped and tucked using Ableton Live 8.
